Recent advances in Stirling cycle refrigeration.

Summary

Specifically addressed in the paper is the potential of Stirling cycle cooled vacuum super insulated fridges. The performance characteristics are particularly suitable for direct photovoltaic operation without the need for storage batteries. Optimization has been carried out on small Stirling coolers for lifts less than 70 watts. Analysis and test results indicate that COPs of 3.0 are possible for one temperature refrigerators under standard conditions. The steady improvement in COP over the last few years for this type of device is discussed.
