The main technical options of the plant designer are discussed, including the following topics: refrigeration cycles (vapour compression cycle and absorption cycle), methods of refrigeration (direct expansion and indirect refrigeration), compressors (reciprocating, screw, vane, scroll and centrifugal compressor), condensation systems (air condensation and evaporative condensation), heat exchangers, expansion valves. The possibilities of rational use of energy connected with thermal storage are also dealt with. E.F.
