Summary

This work explains a system using recovered defrost water as make-up water for evaporative condensers, that has been used by the author in several new refrigeration facilities, in order to save water and energy. The system requires coordination between sewage project and refrigeration project, normally done by different consulting teams, in order to separate evaporator drainpipes. A calculation demonstrates how to provide enough water volume for the daily needs of evaporative condensers make-up, in the case of a bovine export packing plant located at Northern Brazil. Measures of different temperatures in the condensation system and condensing pressure are shown for non recovery and recovery situations. Resulting energy saving calculation is shown.
