Reducing energy consumption in cold storage rooms.

Author(s) : EVANS J. A., GIGIEL A.

Summary

Seven cold store facilities were investigated to identify energy savings. The options identified varied between the store groups. In stores 1, 2 and 3 the major savings were associated with operation and optimisation of the refrigeration plants. In stores 4 and 5 the major issues were associated with maintenance. Stores 6 and 7 were well maintained and the savings available were associated with optimisation of the refrigeration plant. In all cases savings of between 20-40% were achievable without major investment in new equipment or machinery.
