Summary
This paper considers the reduction of CFC 12 emission from household refrigerators and freezers by recycling and exhaust of refrigerant in production, service and scrapping in the FRG. It looks at: the background to present usage of CFC 12; production volume and sales of refrigerators and freezers; CFC quantities contained in refrigerating and freezing appliances; reduction of emissions in production; possibilities of reduced emission in after-sales service; technologies used for the recovery and disposal of CFC 12 and compressor lubricating oil at the scrapping plant; possibilities of CFC 11 disposal from PUR insulating foams; and logistical aspects of disposal and pertinent costs.
