Refrigerant mixtures and compatible lubricants. A model liable to describe the phenomena of mutual solubility.

Summary
Multi-component refrigerant mixtures have been proposed as substitutes for the retrofit of existent equipment and long-term application in new plants. The effective development of such mixtures requires careful consideration of the refrigerant-lubricant system, in order to ensure the lubrication of mechanical parts, unchanged thermodynamic performance, safety and liability of use. The authors present a theoretical model based on an equation, which describes the mutual solubility of refrigerant and lubricant. The difference in the solubility of each mixture component in the lubricant may modify the azeotropic behaviour of the mixture. Some studies on the liquid-vapour equilibrium of R507 and R410A in the presence of polyolester lubricant are reported.
