The solubility of refrigerant blends in synthetic polyolester and alkylbenzene refrigeration lubricants and the effect on viscosity.

Author(s) : WELLMAN C. L., YOSTR. W.

Summary

The paper reports the results of work on the solubility of HFC refrigerants and HFC refrigerant blends such as the R407C and R410A in synthetic polyolester lubricants, and the effect of this solubility on viscosity of the resulting mixtures. Results for different refrigerants with the same lubricant are compared on a weight and molar basis. Also, the results of alkylbenzene with R410A are compared to that of the synthetic polyolester lubricant on a molar basis. Information for the viscosity of such mixtures over a wide range of conditions are reported. These data were collected using a viscometer which allows the simultaneous measurement of temperature, pressure, and viscosity at known composition of refrigerant and lubricant. The experimental system is described.
