Type of article: Article
Summary
Since the introduction of refrigerated containers 40 years ago, an important innovation has been made about every 10-15 years. The replacement of porthole containers by integral ones was only possible as a result of the high level of reliability achieved in refrigeration engineering and automation. Considerable research and development work was carried out in order to keep the design of sea containers affordable and ensure that durability, dead weight, insulation and air-tightness meet the stringent requirements of sea transport.
