Summary

After a historical review, the influence of refrigerants on the development of refrigerating compressors is shown. Based on the areas of application of HFC compressors, clear developmental trends can be derived. Considering the future aspects of development, a very responsible viewpoint is necessary, particularly regarding substitution of HFC refrigerants using natural refrigerants.
