Summary

IN A SUPERMARKET OF 2,000 M2 FLOOR SURFACE ABOUT HALF OF THE ENERGY CONSUMPTION IS USED FOR REFRIGERATION, WHICH MEANS 1.6 TERAJOULE YEARLY. DUE TO THE TREND IN THE PRODUCT MARKET, THE DEMAND FOR REFRIGERATION WILL INCREASE IN THE FUTURE. THE AVAILABLEROOM FOR REFRIGERATION MACHINES IS SMALL SO COMPACT UNITS ARE NEEDED. RELIABILITY IS VERY IMPORTANT. THE REFRIGERATED CABINET MUST GIVE AN OPEN PRESENTATION OF PRODUCTS AND HAVE A GOOD TEMPERATURE DISTRIBUTION AND SOMETIMES ALSO GOOD HUMIDITY CONTROL. ALL THIS MUST BE REALIZED WITH A LOW ENERGY CONSUMPTION. THIS IS A CHALLENGE FOR THE REFRIGERATION INDUSTRY AND MUCH RESEARCH WORK IN THIS FIELD IS NEEDED. A. L. S.
