Summary

NON-AZEOTROPIC REFRIGERANT MIXTURES ARE NOW BEING WIDELY USED IN REFRIGERATION SYSTEMS AND HEAT PUMP PLANT. THE TECHNICAL MERITS IN THEIR USAGE ARE: IMPROVED COP ; BETTER CAPACITY CONTROL ; LOWER EVAPORATING TEMPERATURES: DOWN TO 173 K (-100 DEG C) WITH SINGLE-STAGE COMPRESSION ; HIGHER HEAT PUMP CONDENSING TEMPERATURES EVEN AT LOW COMPRESSION RATIOS. THE ARTICLE BRIEFLY RECOUNTS ON THE BACK HISTORY OF THE APPLICATION OF THESE REFRIGERANT MIXTURES, THE TECHNICAL ADVANTAGES THAT ARE GAINED AND GIVES SOME EXAMPLES OF RECENTLY INSTALLED SYSTEMS.
