Refrigerators and freezers with variable speed compressors.

Summary

In Denmark, more than 1 million domestic refrigerators and freezers and more than 400.000 commercial refrigerators and freezers are produced every year. In co-operation with the refrigerator manufacturers Vestfrost, Gram, Caravell and Elcold and with financial support from the Danish Energy Agency and the Danish Electricity Saving Trust, the Danish Technological Institute is currently developing new appliances with reduced energy consumption by means of various methods e.g. new types of compressors with variable speed. Three projects are ongoing: 1) A new type of bottle cooler (400 liters); 2) A new ice-cream cabinet (335 liters); 3) A new type of upright freezer (340 liters) for domestic use. A 34% saving in energy has been measured for the first and second projects. The third is being tested nowadays.
