REGENERATOR ANALYSIS IN AN ORIFICE PULSE TUBE REFRIGERATOR.

Summary

THE ORIFICE PULSE TUBE REFRIGERATOR (OPTR) IS A CRYOCOOLER CAPABLE OF ACHIEVING USEFUL REFRIGERATION AT 70 K IN A SINGLE STAGE. THE OPTR WORKS USING A VARIATION OF THE STIRLING CYCLE IN WHICH THE MECHANICAL DISPLACER IS REPLACED WITH A MOVING PLUG OF GAS. SINCE THE MASS FLOWS IN THE OPTR ARE MUCH HIGHER THAN IN THE STIRLING REFRIGERATOR THERE IS A REQUIREMENT FOR MUCH BETTER PERFORMANCE IN THE REGENERATIVE HEAT EXCHANGER. ACCORDINGLY, AN APPARATUS HAS BEEN CONSTRUCTED THAT PERMITS DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF THE REGENERATOR DURING OPERATION OF AN OPTR.
