Summary

TWO TYPES OF THERMOMAGNETIC INSTABILITIES ARE FOUND TO EXIST IN SUPERCONDUCTING NIOBIUM WHICH DIFFER IN INITIATING EFFECT, NAMELY, THE JUMPS OF MAGNETIC FLUX UNDER MAGNETIZATION AT MAGNETIC FIELD OF VARIABLESIGN AND THE BURSTS OF TRAPPED FLUX UNDER QUASI-ELASTIC DEFORMATION. INITIATION OF PLASTIC DEFORMATION JUMPS BY THOSE OF MAGNETIC FLUX IS FOUND. THE EFFECT IS SHOWN TO BE DUE TO SAMPLE HEATING DURING THE FLUX JUMP AND CAN BE TREATED IN TERMS OF THE THEORY OF THERMOMECHANICAL INSTABILITY OF LOW-TEMPERATURE LS W THE INFLUENCE OF S-N TRANSITION ON INITIATION OF DEFORMATION JUMPS IS CONSIDERED.
