Reliquefaction of cargo vapour with high inert gas content on LPG-LEG carriers.

Author(s) : BREDENG E.

Summary

Large amounts of hydrocarbons are lost to the atmosphere during gas-freezing and inerting of cargo tanks on LPG and LEG carriers. For 1996, the total loss is estimated to maximum 250,000 tonnes of propane-butane, and 25,000 tonnes of ethylene, propylene, butadiene and VCM. By modification of the reliquefaction plant on the LPG-LEG carriers, up to 93% of this loss might be recovered. For a 35,000 m3 LPG carrier, typically 580 tonnes per year of propane might be saved (vaporization of liquid nitrogen).
