Summary

WITH THE EXCEPTION OF SOME SINGLE POINT MOORING (SPM) LOADING FACILITIES DEDICATED TO LIQUEFIED BUTANE 268 K (-5 DEG C) BUT WHICH CANNOT BE CONSIDERED SIGNIFICANT IN RELATION TO TEMPERATURE, THERE HAS BEEN LITTLE DEVELOPMENT OF SPM TERMINALS FOR OFFSHORE TRANSFER OF FULLY REFRIGERATED LPG: 223 K (-50 DEG C). A CONCEPT FOR A CATENARY ANCHORED LEG MOORING BUOY TERMINAL SUITABLE FOR HANDLING LIQUEFIED GAS AT A TEMPERATURE AS LOW AS 223 K IS DESCRIBED. THE PRINCIPAL FEATURES OF THE CONCEPT ARE: 1. SEA BED INSTALLED PIPES WITH CONNECTION TO A PIPE LINE END MANIFOLD ; 2. FLEXIBLE RISERS TO THE BUOY ; 3. BUOY FITTED WITH A SWIVEL JOINT ; 4. FLOATING HOSE STRINGS FROM THE BUOY TO THE TANKER MANIFOLD. THE RESULTS OF DYNAMIC TESTING OF A PROTOTYPE SYSTEM ARE PRESENTED AND DISCUSSED. (J. ABSTR. BSRA, GB., 40, N 8, 1985/08, 654, 65,997.
