Type of article: Periodical article

Summary

AMONG THE VARIOUS FACILITIES ARE: 1. A LINE HEAT-SOURCE GUARDED HOT PLATE WHICH HASA TEST TEMPERATURE RANGE OF 473 K (200 DEG C) FOR HOT PLATES AND 253 K (-20 DEG C) FOR COLD PLATES. THE APPARATUS MEASURES VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL HEAT FLOW TO SIMULATE HEAT TRANSFER THROUGH CEILINGS AND FLOORS. IT IS THE ONLY APPARATUSIN THE WORLD WHICH CAN MEASURE LOW-DENSITY THICK INSULATION WITH AN ERROR RATE LESS THAN 0.3% ; 2. A CALIBRATED HOT BOX FOR MEASURING THE HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT OF FULL SCALE BUILDING WALL SECTIONS. THE CLIMATIC CHAMBER CAN ATTAIN TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 233 TO 338 K (-40 TO 65 DEG C) WITH RELATIVE HUMIDITIES RANGING FROM 20 TO 80%. THE FACILITY CAN TEST WALL SECTION SPECIMENS OF UP TO 0.6 M THICK AND 700 KILOGRAMMES PER M2 IN WEIGHT PER UNIT AREA.
