RESEARCH INTO THE USE OF ICE-MAKING MACHINES TO DESALINATE MINE WATER.

Summary

A SMALL ICE-MAKER, WITH THE CHARACTERISTICS OF A COMMERCIAL MACHINE, WAS USED TO MAKE ICE AROUND PIPES. SINGLE-SALT SOLUTIONS AND MINE WATERS WERE TESTED. AT NORMAL RATES OF ICE PRODUCTION, IN MOST CASES, THE RATIO OF THE RECOVERED WATER IS NOT VERY HIGH. IT IS POSSIBLE TO OBTAIN BETTER RESULTS WITH WATER CONTAINING MAINLY LOW SOLUBLE SALTS, SUCH AS CALCIUM SULFATE, RATHER THAN HIGH SOLUBLE SALTS SUCH AS SODIUM CHLORIDE.
