Residential solar-powered air conditioner.

Summary

The authors have designed and developed a solar powered air conditioner that operates through a combination of photovoltaic power generating array and commercial power supplies. The successful production of the solar air conditioner is due largely to the development of a DC/DC converter that serves as the interface between photovoltaic and commercial power supplies. A 500-watt photovoltaic power generating array can supply at least 90% of the power consumed by an air conditioner during peak power periods in summer using one-horsepower household air conditioner. It can also supply at least 50% of the power consumed during fixed periods on a summer day.
