Responsibly with refrigerants.

Author(s) : TOMLEIN P., NEUHAUSER G.

Summary

The policy of AREA has for years been aimed at stimulating the application of all refrigerants among its members including so-called "natural" refrigerants. These refrigerants, after all, can play a role in improving our environment. Our policy follows on from achieved and ongoing environmental objectives, such as the transition from CFC to HFC refrigerants, the further reduction of refrigerant usage, the substantially decreased leakage percentage and energetically efficient operation of air conditioning systems, heat pumps and refrigeration installations. AREA supports the use of EU Regulation No. 842/2006, to ensure that these measures are taken responsibly and are effective in their intent. The important step to be taken to reduce or minimise energy consumption on existing R&AC equipment is to always ensure the equipment is properly maintained by competent qualified engineers. Measures include keeping heat exchangers clear of dirt and debris by having regular preventative maintenance regimes in place and checking for refrigerant leakage at regular intervals using direct or indirect methods recorded in logbook.
