Summary

In this paper, a novel heat pump high density thermal storage (HPT) system is described and analyzed for demand response control potential. The system utilizes the adsorption technology for maximum compactness, and is charged with a conventional vapor compression heat pump. A simulation model for demand response control was developed to identify opportunities to maximize benefit to the homeowner and utility company. Results show that thermal energy saved during off-peak hours can be applied during on-peak hours, effectively reducing the maximum electricity demand and annual utility costs.
