Summary

Gas driven heat pumps (GHP) are currently considered a next generation heating technology following up on state-of-the art condensing boilers. A number of appliances are on the market already and various new developments on material, component and at machine level are in progress.
In order to evaluate the perspective of these new developments for fuel driven heat pump systems and to get a better understanding which working pair and system approach fits best to specific climatic conditions and building types , a generic approach for determining the machine performance under arbitrary operating conditions based on few physical key properties is being developed. The impact of the any adaptions on the seasonal performance can then be analyzed e.g. with the BIN method used in European norms [1] or system simulations.
