RINSING WITH R11.

Type of article: Article

Summary

THE AUTHOR DESCRIBES CAUSES OF MOTOR BURN-OUT IN HERMETIC OR SEMI-HERMETIC VAPOUR-COMPRESSION SYSTEMS. A COMMON CAUSE IS THE INCLUSION OF AIR AND MOISTURE WITHIN A SYSTEM. FOLLOWING A BURN-OUT, SYMPTOMS ARE GIVEN BY WHICH THE SEVERITY OF THE BURN-OUT MAY BE JUDGED. THE FULL RINSING OF BURN-OUT IMPURITIES IS THEN DESCRIBED IN DETAIL, INCLUDING THE COMPONENTS NEEDED IN THE R11 PUMPING UNIT. A WARNING IS GIVEN REGARDING THE REFURBISHING OF AN OLD METHYL CHLORIDE SYSTEM BY CHANGING THE REFRIGERANT TO R12 AND SUBSTITUTING A HERMETIC COMPRESSOR FOR AN OPEN DRIVE MODEL. THE RESIDUES OF METHYL CHLORIDE MAY CAUSE A BURN-OUT OF THE NEW MOTOR. D.W.H.
