THE ARTICLE APPLIES TO AIR COMPRESSORS IN AN EXISTING FACILITY. A NUMBER OF UNEQUAL SIZED COMPRESSORS EXISTED, TOGETHER WITH COOLING WATER PUMPS AND COOLING TOWERS. A PROGRAMMABLE CONTROLLER WAS INSTALLED CAPABLE OF SELECTING THE OPTIMUM SIZES AND NUMBERS OF COMPRESSORS AUTOMATICALLY FOR ANY GIVEN DEMAND. TO COMPLETE THE ENERGY SAVING, THE COOLING TOWERS WERE FITTED WITH TWO-SPEED FANS AND THE TOWERS AND PUMPS WERE CYCLED TO SUIT THE COMPRESSORS OPERATING. D.W.H.
