THE ARTICLE REFERS TO AIR-CONDITIONING SYSTEMS IN WHICH A VARIABLE VOLUME OF FRESH AIR IS USED TO OPTIMUM ECONOMY. THE INTEGRATED ECONOMISER REFERRED TO IS THE FRESH AIR DAMPER CONTROLLED SUCH THAT IT IS OPENED TO MAXIMUM AS SOON AS THE OUTDOOR ENTHALPY FALLS TO BELOW THAT EXPECTED IN THE RETURN AIR FROM ROOMS, AND THEN MODULATES WHEN IT FALLS BELOW SUPPLY AIR ENTHALPY TO SAVE FURTHER REFRIGERATION. SIMILARLY IT IS SUGGESTED THAT WHEN OUTSIDE AIR IN LARGE QUANTITIES CANNOT BE BROUGHT THROUGH A BUILDING, LOCAL PLANTS MAY USE AN EXTRA COOLING COIL FED FROM A WATER COOLING TOWER. D.W.H.
