SCREW COMPRESSORS AND POWER GENERATION: A NEW DOMAIN OF APPLICATION IS THE PRODUCTION OF ENERGY FROM RESIDUAL HEAT: COMBUSTION OF DOMESTIC REFUSE, INDUSTRIAL COOLING WATER. THE SYSTEM IS BASED ON THE RANKINE CYCLE. A PLANT OPERATING WITH R114 IS DESCRIBED. CONTROL OF REFRIGERATION PLANT: REGULATION, MONITORING AND CONTROL OF REFRIGERATION PLANT CAN BE ENSURED BY MICROPROCESSORS. ABSORPTION COOLING: ABSORPTION MACHINES ARE STILL USED FOR VERY HIGH CAPACITIES. THE SYSTEM HAS A VERY LOW ISENTROPIC EFFICIENCY, BUT IT CAN HAVE OTHER ENERGY SOURCES THAN ELECTRICAL POWER. THE AIM OF THE INVESTIGATIONS IS TO IMPROVE EFFICIENCIES AND THERE IS A TREND TOWARDS 2 TO 3-STAGE PLANT. J.L.
