Summary
A DEMONSTRATION PLANT WORKING ON THE COMPRESSION PRINCIPLE WITH A COMBINED SOLUTION CYCLE DESIGNED FOR A CAPACITY OF 500 KILOWATT AND SUPPLY TEMPERATURES ABOVE 373 K (100 DEG C) USING THE WORKING FLUID AMMONIA-WATER WAS PLANNED, BUILT AND TESTE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS SHOWED IMPROVED EFFICIENCIES BY 20 TO 50% COMPARED WITH SINGLE-COMPONENT SYSTEMS UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, WITH POSSIBLE SUPPLY TEMPERATURES ABOVE 373 K AND UNIT-SIZES UP TO 1,200 KILOWATT HEAT LOAD. FOR THIS NEW CYCLE WITH SOLUTION INJECTION INTO A SINGLE-SHAFT SCREW COMPRESSOR DURING COMPRESSION, STANDARDIZED AMMONIA SCREW MACHINES ARE SUITABLE AFTER SOME MODIFICATIONS BUT OPERATING WITHOUT ANY LUBRICATION OIL SYSTEM.
