Summary

TWO METHODS FOR THE APPROACHED MODELLING OF HOUSING ENVELOPES WERE COMPARED ON THREE CELLS WITH DIFFERENT INERTIA CHARACTERISTICS. THE FIRST ONE IS BASED ON THE REDUCTION OF A DISCRETE MODAL METHOD, THE SECOND ON A SCHEME WITH FINITE DIFFERENCES FEATURING A SINGLE NODE PER < HEAVY WALL >. THE TEMPERATURE RESPONSES OF THE AIR VOLUME TO THE HEATING POWER LEVEL AND VARIATIONS OF PERIODIC SUN EXPOSURE AND EXTERNAL TEMPERATURE WERE SUCCESSIVELY ENVISAGED. THE REDUCED MODAL METHOD WAS SHOWN TO BE SYSTEMATICALLY MORE ACCURATE, ESPECIALLY SUITABLE FOR THE CALCULATION OF THE RESPONSE OF A CELL TO NUMEROUS TYPES OF STRESSES.
