Single screw compressor: compression and capacity regulation principle.
Author(s) : BOGAERTS T.
Summary
Single screw compressor is existing out of 3 main sections, the motor, the compression and oil separator section. The compression section contains a single screw, two gate rotors and the capacity regulation system. The compression is done by the single screw and the gate rotor. The single screw has 6 grooves and the gate rotor has 11 fingers. The gate rotor finger is closing a groove and in this way capturing a volume. By further rotation of the single screw, the gate rotor finger turns idle and is compressing the captured volume. Due to the construction and the 2-pole motor 34.800 compressions/minute are achieved. The capacity regulation is done through two sliding vanes. Those sliding vanes are covering the surface of the single screw. By transitional movement of the sliding vanes more or less surface of the single screw is covered, resulting in more or less capacity. The capacity regulation can be done in 3 or 4 steps or stepless, this means infinite control between 30 and 100%. The driving force is the gas taken from the dynamic pressure point inside the compression section. This gas has a 1,5 to 2 bars higher pressure then the final compressed gas, due to volumetric expansion at the discharge. Daikin´s experience is more then 20 years in single screw compressor engineering.
