Small-scale natural gas liquefier development.

Author(s) : WURM J., KOUNTZ K., LISS W. E.

Summary

The development of a small-scale natural gas liquefaction system for use in vehicles, remote gas, and other speciality natural gas markets is described. The work is targeted at a 4 to 40 m3/day production capability for the liquefied natural gas (LNG) vehicle market. The system uses mixed refrigerants in a simple refrigerant loop. It is packaged on a transportable skid for rapid deployment. An experimental liquefier, with up to 1 m3/day LNG production rating, has been successfully designed and tested. During the subsequent phase, a 4 m3/day natural gas engine-driven prototype liquefier was developed together with associated gas cleanup equipment.
