THE MANUFACTURE OF SCREW COMPRESSORS IS DEVELOPING TOWARDS MINIATURISATION AND AN EXTENSION OF THEIR RANGE TOWARDS LOWER CAPACITIES. THE TRENDS ARE TO THE SUPPRESSION OF THE OIL PUMP, THE GENERALISATION OF THE SLIDE VALVE FOR CAPACITY CONTROL, OVERFEEDING. A COMPARISON BETWEEN SCREW AND PISTON COMPRESSORS IS MADE: VOLUMETRIC EFFICIENCY, COP ACCORDING TO THE REFRIGERANT, THE COMPRESSION SYSTEM (OVERFEEDING OR COMPOUND), THE HEAT LOAD. THE DEVELOPMENT OF SCREW COMPRESSORS TOWARDS SMALL CAPACITIES IS STUDIED AND THE APPEARANCE OR REAPPEARANCE OF NEW TYPES OF COMPRESSORS IS OUTLINED. J.L.
