Summary

A SMALL SUPERCONDUCTING SOLENOID TO PROVIDE THE STEADY HOMOGENEOUS FIELD FOR NUCLEAR-MAGNETIC-RESONANCE AT ULTRALOW TEMPERATURES IS DESCRIBED. THE SOLENOID IS SHIELDED BY A SUPERCONDUCTING TUBE AND THERE IS A SIMPLE METHOD OF COMPUTING THE FIELD DISTRIBUTION. THREE DIFFERENT SHIELD MATERIALS, LEAD, NIOBIUM-TITANIUM, AND PURE NIOBIUM, WERE INVESTIGATED.
