Summary
The compression chillers consume significant amounts of electricity mainly fossil and use cold greenhouse gases (CFCs and HCFCs); thereby greatly contributing to the degradation of the ozone layer and climate change.
To fight against these disasters threatening our planet, the international community has mobilized to enact agreements with the objectives of increasing the share of renewable energy in the global energy balance and reducing emissions of refrigerants. For this purpose, efforts have brought about the development of cold technologies by using solar energy as heat and cold gases Friends of the Environment.
In this book, we present energy and environmental challenges of today and tomorrow and the availability of solar radiation able to meet the needs of humanity. It is found that the use of renewable energy (sustainable and clean) is an attractive alternative because the maximum incident solar radiation corresponds to that where refrigeration and air conditioning needs are necessary and vital. In addition, there is a perfect coincidence between the peaks of cooling requirements, the maximum incident solar radiation and high outside temperatures, especially in countries with hot climate where homes are inefficient in terms of climate comfort and the temperatures can reach in summer humanly unbearable values. The intake of fresh air and refrigeration is a wellness invaluable to health, food, education and socio-economic development of the people.
After this, we study different cold production technologies and complex equations governing refrigeration processes. Also, we compare the advantages and disadvantages of each technology to determine which best meets the abovementioned international concerns.
To support this international effort to save the climate, the fight against climate change and the depletion of the ozone layer, our contribution has focused on the development of numerical simulation software for performing the study and optimization of a solar cooling adsorption machine. This simulator has been supplemented by a second digital computer code based on complex equations of heat and mass transfer in the adsorber. Using the latter, the design and sizing of elements of solar reactor has detailed.
