Solid desiccant systems for humidity control applications.

Author(s) : SHYU R. J.

Summary

Humidity control is a practical process in many industrial productions and storages. The conventional approach for this purpose is using a vapour compression system in which the air should be overcooled to achieve desired low humidity. A better approach is using solid desiccant material to adsorb water content from moist air. The key component for this method is a desiccant rotary wheel. In the paper, two systems are introduced for tea leaf drying and cabbage dehydration. Another two examples were designed for low humidity environments in a storage room and a laboratory. The performance of these two systems was tested and significant energy saving was achieved.
