Demonstration and testing of an all-electric desiccant dehumidifying system at a New Jersey supermarket.

Summary

Unlike traditional desiccant systems, the system uses waste heat from vapour-compression refrigerating condensers to regenerate a recently developed desiccant material. The paper discusses the performance of the desiccant system under field conditions and its interactions with the refrigerating and conventional heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning systems. Results indicate that the system is three to four times more efficient for moisture removal than a conventional HVAC system with no deleterious effects on refrigerating system operations.
