Impact of desiccant wheel parameters on dehumidification performance.

Summary

The performance of a desiccant wheel exhibiting a Type IM desiccant isotherm is presented. Heat and mass transfer modelling studies have shown that a type IM desiccant wheel should exhibit high moisture adsorption levels when regenerated at temperatures in the 160 to 200 deg C range. A test system was constructed with equipment for preconditioning the process and regeneration air streams to achieve set temperatures and humidities. A direct-fired gas burner was used as a regeneration source. Within the range tested, wheel outlet air moisture levels were found to be relatively insensitive to both inlet temperature and face velocity and depended mostly on inlet air moisture content.
