Summary
THE EFFECT OF THE RADIATION FROM A CO2 LASER ON THE CHARACTERISTICS OF SUPERCONDUCTING NIOBIUM JUNCTIONS IS INVESTIGATED. AT LOW LASER RADIATION INTENSITIES THE JUNCTIONS STILL EXHIBIT JOSEPHSON PROPERTIES IN SPITE OF THE FACT THAT THE GENERATION FREQUENCY OF THE LASER EXCEEDS BY 40 TIMES THE FREQUENCY CORRESPONDING TO THE MAGNITUDE OF THE SUPERCONDUCTING ENERGY GAP OF NIOBIUM. IT IS SHOWN THAT BY SUPPLEMENTARY UHF IRRADIATION THE SENSITIVITY OF THE SUPERCONDUCTING IR RADIATION DETECTORS CAN BE CONSIDERABLY ENHANCED.
