Some results on transition boiling in liquid nitrogen.

Summary

Some results obtained using a thin wire immersed in a liquid nitrogen bath under saturation conditions are presented. The wire is thermoresistive so that the heat input, carried out by Joule effect, is supplied either by controlling the current or by controlling the voltage. Experiments are realized with various heating rates. Attention is focused on the transition from the critical heat flux to the film boiling regime. For both I or U heating parameters, the value of the critical heat flux is presented as a function of the heating rate, as well as the time and the energy required for the transition.
