ONE EXPLOSION AND TWO LARGE ESCAPES OF AMMONIA IN COLD STORES ARE DESCRIBED. RECOMMENDATIONS TO AVOID RECURRENCES AND TO FACILITATE RESCUE WORK ARE GIVEN. SAFETY PROBLEMS WITH REFRIGERATION PLANT SHOULD BE THE SUBJECT OF MORE INTERNATIONAL DISCUSSION. A SUPERVISOR FOR SAFETY IN REFRIGERATION IS REQUIRED.
