Summary

Adsorption isotherm and kinetics of methane on pitch-based activated carbon is experimentally investigated at temperatures ranging from 5 to 45°C and the pressures varying up to 2.5 MPa. The experiments have been conducted by a constant-volume-variable-pressure method and the test rig provides a maximum uncertainty of ± 5% in measuring the amount of methane uptake. The experimentally measured isotherms data are fitted with Langmuir, Tóth and Dubinin-Astakhov model. A modified linear-driving-force model is proposed to predict the amount of methane uptake as a function of time with average fittings error of 5%. These data are essential for designing any solid-sorption methane storage systems.
