Summary

THE MEASUREMENT OF NATURAL GAS DENSITY SHOULD BE CORRECTED FROM KNOWLEDGE OF THE SOUND VELOCITY IN THIS FLUID. SOUND VELOCITY WAS MEASURED IN 10 SAMPLES AT TEMPERATURES RANGING BETWEEN 273 AND 303 K (0 AND 30 DEG C) AND PRESSURES UP TO 6 MEGAPASCALS BY AN ACOUSTIC INTERFEROMETER. THE RELATIVE UNCERTAINTY OF MEASUREMENTS DOES NOT EXCEED 0.2% ; THE MEASURED VALUES WERE COMPARED TO THE SOUND VELOCITIES CALCULATED FROM AN EMPIRICAL STUDY OF LITERATURE AND THE RELATIVE DEVIATION OF MEASUREMENTS DOES NOT EXCEED 1%, EXCEPT FOR ONE SAMPLE, SO THAT THE EFFECT ON THE CORRECTED DENSITY IS LOWER THAN 0.5 THOUSANDTH.
