Summary

INSULATION LOG OF PREFABRICATED REINFORCED STYROFOAM CROSS SECTION IS AUTOMATICALLY SPUN ON SPHERICAL LNG TANKS TO PRODUCE A MONOLITHIC INSULATION SHELL WITH MINIMAL CONVECTION HEAT GAIN. GLASSFIBER REINFORCING MATERIALS ARE INCORPORATED INTO THE COMPOSITE DESIGN TO PROVIDE LONG TERM RESISTANCE TO CRACKING FROM COOLING STRESS. BUTT-JOINT WELDING IS USED TO THERMALLY END WELD THE INSULATION LOGS TO FORM A CONTINUOUS LONG LOG. ALSO, A CONTINUOUS EXTERIOR ALUMINIUM SKIN IS APPLIED TO THE LOG.
