Summary

DUE TO THE HIGH DEGREE OF SAFETY NEEDED IN BUILDING A GAS TANKER, COMPLEX CALCULATION METHODS HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED. THE AUTHOR HAS STUDIED SIMPLIFIED PROCEDURES TO CHECK THE STRENGTH OF THESE SHIPS AND FOR THE APPROVAL OF HULL DRAWINGS ; IN ADDITION, THESE PROCEDURES ENABLE SHIPYARDS TO DEVELOP THE DESIGN OF A NEW PROJECT. THE RESULTS ARE SHOWN IN A FLOW CHART INDICATING THE STEPS OF THE DESIGN ANALYSIS. THE ITEMS COVERED THE CHOICE OF STEEL GRADES, THE BEHAVIOUR AT SEA ESTIMATE, THE STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS AND THE PROCESS, FINALIZED BY RECOMMENDATIONS CONCERNING THE ARRANGEMENT OF STRUCTURAL DETAILS. BOTH LNG AND LPG SHIPS WITH MEMBRANE AND INDEPENDENT TANK SHIPS ARE DEALT WITH.
