Summary

The paper illustrates a new type of monoscrew compressor (or globoid compressor), recently on the market. Its peculiar characteristic is the absence of oil injection so that every problem arising from the presence of the oil inside the refrigerating circuit is removed. To make it possible, a special composite plastic material is used for the two gate rotors (the rotating sealing elements of the main rotor) and the internal refrigeration, traditionally accomplished by injection of oil, in this case is obtained by injecting liquid refrigerant inside the compression spaces. Apart from the oil absence, the paper claims several other advantages, such as better energy efficiency, more reliability and less noise.
