Summary

THE ENTRANCE OF A VORTEX STRUCTURE INTO A LONG JOSEPHSON JUNCTION WHOSE PARAMETERS VARY STRONGLY BUT GRADUALLY ALONG THE LENGTH OF THE STRUCTURE IS ANALYZED THEORETICALLY. THE EQUATION OF THE TYPE FOR RAPID JOSEPHSON CURRENT OSCILLATIONS ALONG THE JUNCTION IS REDUCED BY MEANS OF THE ASYMPTOTIC TECHNIQUE TO A EQUATION WHICH DESCRIBES SLOW VARIATION OF THE PARAMETERS OF SUCH VORTEX STRUCTURES. THE CONTRACTED EQUATION CAN BE SOLVED ANALYTICALLY AND THUS THE CRITICAL CURRENT OF THE JUNCTION CAN BE FOUND EXPLICITLY AS A FUNCTION OF THE MAGNETIC FIELD. THE RESULTS ARE IN GOOD AGREEMENT WITH THOSE OF SOME RECENT EXPERIMENTS.
