Summary
More than 10 million metric tonnes of cold storage capacity has been created in the previous 10 years, and so far India has witnessed commissioning of around 30.4 million metric tonnes of cold storage capacity. Diversification within the cold stores itself has led to different types of cold stores being established as good business model. Creation of 92,693 tonnes capacity of controlled atmosphere cold store, mainly for apple, has enabled this industry to compete with imported apples. Likewise, modified
cold store for processing potatoes is a well recognized area gaining popularity.
