Notes that small gas-engine heat pumps for air conditioning were first marketed in Japan in 1987. Notes the obstacles in the way of their development and how they were overcome. States that there are currently 17 models of differing capacities in the series. Attention is presently directed at promoting gas-engine heat pumps usage by new versions, especially for middle-size commercial buildings.
