Summary
Stirling coolers are promising candidates for refrigerating equipment because of their efficiency and environmentally-friendly working fluid. In this article, the basic thermodynamics are described to quantify the attractive cycle performance. The fundamentals required to realize actual Stirling refrigerators are described. Some machines, which have achieved their target performance at near-ambient temperatures and are being produced, are introduced. They can operate very quietly with low vibration levels.
