Experimental temperature fronts for adsorptive refrigeration: comparison with model.

Fronts de température expérimentaux pour le froid adsorptif : comparaison avec le modèle.

Summary

The current performance of adsorption cycles must be improved. The process of heat regeneration (temperature fronts) can be a good way to do so. The expected COP is around 1. So that the regeneration will be efficient, it is crucial that the heat transfers be excellent. The consolidated adsorbent composites (expanded natural graphite + zeolite) have much higher heat transfer characteristics than granular fixed beds. The experimental study of temperature fronts was therefore done with an adsorber containing such an adsorbent. Experimental COPs of 0.9 were thus obtained, but with relatively low cold production capacities. Much better performances can be achieved by optimizing the heat exchange surface and the operating conditions.
