Summary

A THREE YEAR STUDY WAS MADE OF GOLDEN DELICIOUS, STARKING AND GRANNY SMITH STORED FOR 7 TO 9 MONTHS AT VARIOUS O2 AND CO2 CONCENTRATIONS. 1 TO 2% O2 GAVE THE BEST RESULT FOR ALL THREE VARIETIES ALTHOUGH THE EFFECT ON GRANNY SMITH WAS NOT PRONOUNCED. THE MOST EFFECTIVE CO2 CONCENTRATIONS WERE 1% FOR GOLDEN DELICIOUS AND STARKING, AND 0% FOR GRANNY SMITH WHICH IS LIABLE TO CORE FLUSH IN CO2 ATMOSPHERES. THE STORAGE TEMPERATURE FOR ALL TRIALS WAS 272.5 K (-0.5 DEG C). G.R.S.
